Camping at Balsam Lake There is a nice lean-to and camping area about 1/4 mile from the summit, with a very reliable water source close by. The easiest way to reach the lean-to is from the Beaverkill approach (See Hike Descriptions).

Camping is not permitted in the clearing (except in Winter), but picnicing is welcome.  There is a large picnic table in the clearing.

Fires are forbidden at all times in the clearing.  Please respect this policy.  As Gus Stewart, a former observer, once wrote, "This is God's Country.  Don't burn it down and make it look like hell".
